Olive Crazy: All About Olives and Olive Oil
Mar 212011

What better time than a Monday for a great martini recipe. My Dad loved a good, cold martini and this creation was one of his favorites.

On Saturdays after completing his yard chores and before dinner, Dad would fix up and enjoy his Dirty Appetizer Martini. He said it was a little bit aperitif and little bit appetizer. Fix one up and enjoy.

Cheatham Hodges’ Dirty Appetizer Martini

2 oz – your favorite vodka

2 drops – dry vermouth

1 tsp – olive brine

1 each – green pimento stuffed olive, black pitted olive, pickled garlic, gherkin, cocktail onion, lemon rind

Chill martini glass in refrigerator. Rub glass rim with lemon rind. Place olives, garlic, gherkin, onion, and rind in bottom of glass.

Fill a martini shaker with ice. Pour in vodka, vermouth, and brine. Shake gently for 10 seconds. Strain into chilled glass. Sip, chew, and relax until dinner.

Cheers Dad.

May the sun shine through your branches.

  1. A very nice recipe…I think I will have to give it a go with some Grey Goose. Any recommendations on the vermouth (yes I know it is not a lot being added)?

    • I am not a vermouth fan. I do use Martini & Rossi though, but if there is not vermouth around I don’t worry about it. There is one variation on Dad’s recipe that I prefer and that is to add a tbsp of cold water.
